10 CLOVERFIELD LANE

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE = C+

Very average film, that I very likely would have given a lower grade had it not been for the outstanding performance of veteran John Goodman. In what was an otherwise mediocre script, that relied heavily on conveniences, with payoffs that often contradicted their setups, Goodman's performance was this film's saving grace.

Performances out of Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr were passable at best, but it is important to note that it is much more the fault of a faulty script than it is of the actors themselves. It was hard to tell if the writer(s) of the screenplay wanted us the audience to view Michelle as an intelligent, strong willed individual or if they wanted us to view her as an idiot. Watching her go from having the intelligence of a turkey in one scene, to being the equivalent of Einstein in the next, only to go back to turkey-brain, was insulting.

Glad this wasn't a shakey camera film, although story-wise I still like CLOVERFIELD better.
