THE BABADOOK: D+
I will say that the film did a good job of capturing my attention and luring me in. From the initial setup, I was expecting something a bit more captivating and actually frightening. Yet, the predictability, the lack of character development, the overused, borderline cliched plot points and above all, the lack of explanation sent this film down the toilet nice and clean.
The storybook, along with the neighbor lady and the mystery of the dad, strongly hinted that their was going to be a huge revelation, where point A met with point B, point B with point C and we'd be given a grand ole story of who exactly the Babadook is and why he is haunting this particularly mom and son.
Instead, we're given nothing.
This film reminds me of an episode of ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK, "The Dark Music".....only that was good and I liked that.
The little boy was just as creepy and scary as the monster. The performances in this film were good for what they had to work with.
Other than that, not impressed......with ONE exception.
The scene where she watches herself on the news cast. That was good. I was impressed with that.
