MARLEY AND ME |
Finally got around to watching Marley & Me the other night, and I have to give it a 6.5/10. I was not nearly as good as I thought it would be. While it had it's touching and heart warming moments, I was expecting a more sentimental film than what it turned out to be. For one I thought it was inappropriately named, because it never singled out who "Me" was even supposed to be. Then I thought that perhaps the film was trying to make "me" more universal and representative of various characters. However I don't feel the film did as good of a job with that as it could have.
I think what the film was trying to say is that dogs are family members and even if they don't do something heroic or all that memorable, we still love them anyway. I of course cried at the end when he died (and come on, for those of you who whine about spoilers, who doesn't know that by now???) but I also cry when I see dead dogs/cats on the side of the road.
Not a bad movie, but seeing what it wanted to accomplish, I feel that "Beethoven" and "Old Yeller" did a better job.
