MOUSE HUNT = B-
A very simple film, without much substance but enjoyable nonetheless. I never knew it was the late, loveable William Hickey's last performance. It was fun seeing him in one last thing before he passed away. For the most part performances are lackluster, with the exception of Nathan Lane, who was magnificent and exceptionally funny. I think I'd have more positive to say about Christopher Walken, Ernie Sabello and Michael Jeter if their parts had been more than minimal.
My two complaints for the film were that it tried way to hard to be funny. It tried to put a joke on top of a joke, on top of a joke. One joke would have been good enough. It over saturated itself, thus demoting the humor.
It also seemed to fail in its attempt to either be or not be kid friendly. Moments in the film went above and beyond to make sure that the little kids watching (or more importantly their parent's) wouldn't be offended. Then in other parts, it seemed to careless. I couldn't figure out why they would work so hard to be kid-friendly in one scene and then turn around and throw four letter words around like they were going out of style.
One viewing was worth my time, but one viewing is all this film is going to get from me.
