WORLD"S GREATEST DAD |
Watched, "World's Greatest Dad" tonight. I give it a 9.5/10. What brilliant film. Robin Williams, you were a beautiful man and I miss you dearly. I wish you were still with us. A good film makes you question your own perspectives and philosophies on life. Anyone that knows me knows my disdain for deception. I absolutely hate lies, but this movie made me take an inner look at why we lie. To quote Sara McLachlan's "Angel", "you keep on building the lies that you make up for all that you lack." Sometimes the truth isn't good. Sometimes the truth is ugly. Sometimes we want so badly for life to be something other than what it is. Sometimes we want ourselves to be something better than what we are. If our effort isn't enough to make these changes for improvement, pretending can be comforting.
I question, was his decision to lie about his son to make his son seem smarter, deeper and better really all that bad of a thing? I have mixed feelings on the matter. I can't make up my mind.
The film is also a reflection of sociology. A lot of people are only who they really are to themselves. I think we all are to an extent. Who we are to other people is all based on perception. That perception can be based largely on fact and it can be based largely on lies.
The ending spoke volumes to me. Life is so different than the way it ought to be. We're told what's good and what's right and what one ought to do to achieve happiness, satisfaction and success, yet as the film illustrates it's often the polar opposite of these things that actually gets us these things that we all desire.
If you haven't seen this, I highly recommend it
