THE VISIT |
THE VISIT: C-
It had likable parts and was a sit-through-able film. It was worth one viewing. Not worth a second. I think that Shyamalan forgot that he was writing dialog/monologue for children, as 90% of the film they talked like they were Harvard graduate students. The other 10% of the film felt like Shyamalan was reading through the script and suddenly realized that the 13 year old and 15 year old sounded like 50 year olds, and he needed to write something in to make them sound more their age.
The shaky camera thing has GOT to go. I can't wait till it's been 5-10-15 years since we saw the shaky camera technique. I can't wait until kids are doing history projects on the shaky camera technique. It isn't cool. It isn't scary. It doesn't add dramatic effect. All it does it cause vertigo and makes people want to throw up. STOP DOING IT.
The kids coming out of the ordeal unscathed and completely the same? Get real. You don't go through something like that and end up exactly the same. It'd scar you. If not for life, at least for a while.
Shyamalan has continuously regressed. He made the masterpiece THE SIXTH SENSE and it has been all downhill from there. I was really hoping this would be a hit, but I think at the end of his career he's going to end up a one hit wonder. Each film worse than the last.
Ode to yet another shitty horror film that I've seen this year.
Please, please, please I am begging for a good one. Begging.
