"The Hitcher" (2007): C-
Believe it or not when Ashley Bunting and I grabbed this off the shelf at Family Video, we grabbed the 1986 version which I've wanted to see for a long time now. Unfortunately, it's still on my bucket list of things to watch, because we were given the 2007 version.
There were a few things I did like about the film. The acting was rather good, and the movie started out well. The tone and atmosphere were set very nicely and the movie was quite enjoyable right up to shortly after the rising action. After that the movie became painfully boring and painfully predictable.
Very unrealistic, even within its own rules. Things were way too easy and way too convenient for the antagonist. The choices and decisions of the protagonists kept weaving in and out something an intelligent person would do, to something a complete moron would do. There was no consistency, only nonsensical madness that unfolded on screen in order to always keep the antagonist one step ahead of the protagonists.
The film tried to use ambiguity, but unlike "Duel" that I watched before this film, it failed in its usage.
I'm hoping if I ever do get around to watching the original, I like it more than I did this overall below mediocre film.
